    July 8th, 2009  The New Artists Theater Company is proud to bring you a special two night presentation of Budd Schulberg's screenplay On the Waterfront , directed by Frank Licato, produced by Nick Puccio and The Hudson Film Group. Read by an extraordinary twenty -member ensemble cast that includes; Jason Cerbone, Robin Paul with Vincent Pastore and Robert Funaro of Sopranos fame and many other talented actors.
    
    Nick Puccio, The Hudson Film Group and entire cast and crew are donating this reading to the City of Hoboken. Garry Pastore of Hudson Film says," We thought it appropriate to present On The Waterfront which was filmed in Hoboken as our gift to the community. We know right now lots of families are hurting and cannot afford a night out. We wanted to make great theater available to everyone."
    
    The story is set in 1950's Hoboken .Terry Malloy dreams about being a prize fighter, while tending his pigeons and running errands at the docks for Johnny Friendly, the corrupt boss of the dockers union. Terry witnesses a murder by two of Johnny's thugs, and later meets the dead man's sister. She introduces him to Father Barry, who tries to convince him to provide information for the courts that will tumble the racketeers. The Waterfront Crime Commission is about to hold hearings on union crime and underworld infiltration. As workers are turned against each other, Terry inadvertently participates in the murder of fellow longshoreman Joey Doyle, orchestrated by boss Johnny Friendly and aided by Terry's brother Charley. When Joey's sister Edie sees more in Terry than he sees in himself and Father Barry urges him on, Terry begins to feel pangs of conscience, examines his past and begins to take responsibility for his actions.
    
    On the Waterfront was a 1954 American Film about mob violence and corruption among longshoreman. The film was directed by Elia Kazan and written by Budd Schulberg. It starred Marlon Brando, Eva Marie Saint, Rod Steiger, Karl Malden and Lee J Cobb. The soundtrack was composed by Leonard Bernstein. It was based on a series of articles written by the New York Sun's, Malcolm Johnson. The film won eight academy awards including, best picture, best actor, and best director.
